Al Qaeda losing, Not Our Fault

I am currently writing this post from my room, which is in Iraq. Yes, if you are just reading this blog for the first time, I Aaron, was deployed to Iraq a month ago. For those of you who know this basic fact, we can all sorta agree that I am here now, along with 50,000 other soldiers, due to the "You broke it, you own it" principle. To put it simply of course. *Fun fact: The "You broke it, you own it" principle of war was codified by the league of nations at the 1919 Geneva covention where then President Wilson was quoted as saying, "This sounds like a great idea! let's stick it to those dick Germans!" (citation needed). Irony?? So we are here ensuring Iraq is a little less broken, and are doing this due to Iraq's role as a major player in the now out-of-vogue "Global War on Terror." Everyone has heard of this thing, and you may even remember the bad guys who started it all.... AL Qaeda.

Al Qaeda. The reason I am in the Army today. I am not going to bother going into a detailed history of the last decade, you know these ass holes. They are well known for their violent tactics against civilians, extremist idiology, and desire to overthrow the West as well as all of the moderate Islamic regimes in favor of a twisted, fundamentalist, sharia law concept. Another reason these dudes hate these moderate (moderate in terms of religious ideology, not cruelty), Mid East regimes is because they also assist us in this struggle against Islamic extremism. The United States used to give Mubarak $1Billion in military aid annually, and Qaddafi is actually blaming Osama Bin Laden for drugging his oposition into uprising. No one hates radical extremisits more than an authoritarian dictator. Trust me.

However, Al Qaeda seems to be kinda getting what it wanted. So far 2 regimes have fallen, Lybia will likely fall soon, and protests have popped up in most every other Islamic country in the region. But.... the thing is, these have all been relatively secular, non violent, and democratic movements. Exactly the opposite of everything Al Qaeda stands for. There is a wonderful NYTimes article out today that I kinda stole this point from.

Bottom line, Al Qaeda seems to be losing without our input. . The people of this region are rejecting the Al Qaeda model and hopefully making it a little easier on those of us who are over here now.
